Meet Reverend Sunnie

e-mail

Introducing – Me: My name is Sunnie Jan Walls Murphy. I was born at St. Paul’s Hospital in Dallas in 1960. I spent the first few years of my life in California. We moved back to Texas when I was in second grade and I’ve lived in or around the Dallas Metroplex ever since. Being the granddaughter of a Southern Baptist Minister on my father’s side and a devout Pentecostal on my mother’s side –

To say I had a very “unique” religious upbringing would be an understatement! I married my first husband (a Methodist Minister’s son) when I was 18. We shared 3 children and several abusive years before I had enough and left with my children. My road to independence was an interesting, sometimes frightening experience but with God’s help I made it through.

On June 19, 1991 I met Chuck on a computer Bulletin Board Service. We had our first date in September of that year. We dated for 7 years before we felt we had worked out all of our “issues” from our past relationships. Both of us knew we were in this for life this time – we truly believe we are soul mates, and wanted to make sure we had it right before we tied the knot. Together we have 5 children: Jason (married to Stacy and father to Tristen and Branden), Valerie (married to Barry and mother to Preston with one on the way, stepmon to Lauren), Andrew (currently single and applying to various Police Dept. after his service to his country in Iraq), Matt & Liz.

In 1997, I went through the RCIA program in the Catholic Church. I was searching for something – and I thought I would find it there. I converted to Catholicism and attended Catholic Church until 2003 – when all of the scandals started coming to light. One morning I woke up and just knew I could not do it anymore – I could not financially or spiritually support a church that hid such horrible acts. This led me to the Episcopal Church. As Chuck likes to say “it was Catholic light” – Chuck and I both went through the conversion process together. We attended the Episcopal Church for several years and enjoyed the ritual and educational process we experienced. However, I still knew there was more.

Somewhere around 2004, I began exploring Metaphysics and Spirituality. I began reading and attending classes and really nourishing my soul. In 2005, Chuck and I began our studies with the University of Sedona. We completed our Bachelor’s Program in October of 2006 and were ordained in the International Metaphysical Ministry. Our plans were to start a church of Christian Metaphysics. To quote an old saying, “be careful what you wish for!” In mid – October, I mentioned to Rev. Jeanie that we had become ordained and that we were going to start a church. Two weeks later, she told Chuck and I that she was leaving the church and we were to become the new ministers for Unity of Richardson. The rest is history!

We are so Blessed that we were hired and accepted as ministers for Unity and we are thrilled to be a part of the church. I know that we are on the ground floor of growth for Unity and this upcoming year will be exciting for all of us!

Stay Blessed!

Rev. Sunnie
